Firefighters battle wildfires in Greece for second day

Firefighters on the Greek island of Samos, in the eastern Aegean, battle a forest fire for the second day in a row as reinforcements begin to arrive.

The Greek Kathrini newspaper reported today, Friday, that more than a hundred firefighters, seven ground teams and volunteers are trying to put out the flames, and five planes are used to throw water and six helicopters are used to help from the air.

Another 52 firefighters and 22 fire engines are expected to arrive today by boat from Piraeus.

Firefighters are battling the flames on three fronts near the villages of Kokkari, Forlios and Mytilniwe, and locals have been told to stand ready for immediate evacuation if you text them via the EU emergency number 112.
