The foreign ministers of Tunisia and Germany discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Al-Grandi discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Heiko Maas, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation to accommodate the available possibilities and respond to the changes resulting from the Corona pandemic.


A Tunisian Foreign Ministry statement issued on Friday said that Al-Jarandi expressed - during the meeting - his satisfaction with the steady development of bilateral cooperation relations, especially since 2011. He praised the German support for Tunisia, whether at the level of strengthening democracy and improving governance or through many structured projects that are in line with With Tunisia's priorities and development needs, he also noted the diversity of partnership areas between the two countries, the multiplicity of their frameworks, and the continuous follow-up to them at the political and technical levels, even in the context of the Corona pandemic.


Al-Jarandi praised the German government’s support for Tunisia to confront the economic and health repercussions of the Corona pandemic, through the flexibility it showed to adapt some financial and technical cooperation programs to the new context, in addition to its support for Tunisia to be among the first 18 countries to enjoy doses of anti-Covid 19 vaccines distributed within the framework of the COVAX vaccine platform or By giving her many medical equipment and means of protection.


He stressed the importance of working together to further deepen post-Coronavirus cooperation at the bilateral level and within the framework of relations with the European Union, in order to establish renewed future-oriented partnerships, especially with regard to achieving digital transformation and energy transition, taking into account the uniqueness of the Tunisian democratic experience and the development specificities of Tunisia. .


In another context, the two ministers discussed the economic situation in Tunisia, the necessary reforms and the ongoing talks between Tunisia and the International Monetary Fund. Al-Jarandi highlighted the importance of economic recovery as a condition for strengthening and sustaining democracy. Heiko Maas stressed that Germany will continue to support the Tunisian government to implement the required economic reforms.
