United Nations: With US mediation, talks will resume demarcating the maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel

The United Nations confirmed that the form of the talks that are taking place between Lebanon and Israel regarding the maritime borders has been well defined, and they are being hosted at the United Nations headquarters in Lebanon with the mediation of the United States.

According to the United Nations Information Center in New York, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, said that the United Nations will continue to support the process as requested by the parties. "But this format, unlike discussions about land borders, is separate, and it was determined last year and is a continuation of that process," he said.

Discussions on demarcating the maritime border between Lebanon and Israel began in mid-October, and were resumed in several rounds mediated by the United States and hosting the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon.

The United Nations Information Center indicated that the talks stopped for nearly six months, and a new round is now resuming at a UN point on the outskirts of the border town of Naqoura.
