Al-Mashat: Egypt is the first country to launch a national strategy for women's empowerment 2030


Dr. Rania Al-Mashat met with the Minister of International Cooperation, Christine Arab, representative of UN Women, to discuss areas of joint cooperation between the Ministry of International Cooperation and UN Women, and future cooperation to advance the state’s efforts to empower women in various fields.

 

During the meeting, the Minister of International Cooperation discussed with the representative of UN Women, areas of joint cooperation that come within the framework of national priorities with the aim of empowering women and increasing their participation in all areas of life in support of Egypt's development vision 2030, and the new partnership projects that the United Nations is working on to achieve this goal .

 

The discussions also touched on the possibility of strengthening cooperation within the framework of the gender gap catalyst launched by the Ministry of International Cooperation and the National Council for Women in partnership with the World Economic Forum, making Egypt the first country in Africa and the Middle East and North Africa region to launch this platform aimed at strengthening joint efforts between the two sectors. Governmental, private, civil society and international partners to empower women economically, and during last February, the implementation plan for the catalyst was launched, which will be implemented within three years.

 

On her part, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, praised the cooperation between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Nations in many development areas, including the empowerment of women, as work is currently underway to implement the strategic framework for the partnership with the United Nations, which aims to support development plans at the level of 4 main axes. They are: comprehensive economic development, social justice, sustainability of natural and environmental resources, and the empowerment of women.

 

Al-Mashat confirmed that the Ministry of International Cooperation is working on establishing international partnerships with multilateral and bilateral development partners to support national efforts aimed at empowering women. The ongoing development cooperation portfolio includes 34 projects worth $ 3.3 billion that achieve the goals of empowering women in various fields, including health and education. And small and medium enterprises.

 

The Minister of International Cooperation expressed her aspiration for more partnerships with UN Women in order to achieve the national goals related to empowering women and increase their participation in development efforts, especially since Egypt is the first country to launch a national strategy for the empowerment of women 2030, which is consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. .

 

For her part, Christine Arab, representative of UN Women in Egypt, said that the United Nations is working to empower women and reduce gender inequality, through strong partnerships with the government, civil society organizations and all concerned parties, especially as achieving this reflects positively on Development, prosperity and inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

 

 It is worth noting that the Ministry of International Cooperation is the national coordinator of the strategic framework for partnership with the United Nations (UNPDF), and also co-chairs the steering committee with the United Nations Resident Coordinator, where Dr. Rania Al-Mashat and Banova together supervise the implementation of the strategic framework for partnership with the United Nations that It includes the work of 29 United Nations agencies, funds and programs operating in Egypt, including regional offices.
